Creating Your Painting
Step 1. Start by contacting me at kpentonart@gmail.com
Step 2. In your message describe what you would like me to create. Be as specific as possible, take some time to consider the answers to the following questions:
- Framed or unframed?
- What size painting do you want? (I suggest no smaller than 16 x 20)
- What subject do you want in your painting?
- What colors do you want in your painting?
- Are you looking to stay in a certain price range/budget?
- What is your deadline? (size and complexity will effect timing)
Step 3. Pricing - is dependent on the size and complexity of the piece along with your choice of material and framing.
Step 4. Our Contract - After the initial email I like to have a discussion with my clients where we go over the specific details of the painting. Once we negotiate the terms/details of your commission, I will e-mail you a contract outlining all that we have discussed for your approval.
Step 5. Down Payment - There is a non-refundable down payment of 50% before I begin work on your painting.
Step 6. Painting - Once we have discussed the details you want in the painting, your commission will be scheduled into my calendar. Once work has begun it can take up to 4 -6 weeks to complete. (rush orders are possible but may cost extra).
Step 7. Final Product - Once your painting is complete we will arrange delivery and final payment. (your work will also include all preliminary drawings or sketches which lead to the creation of your painting).
Example Commission
This is a small example of one of my commissioned pieces. Capturing the history of a family home can be an exciting experience and one that I do not take lightly. As I painted this Commissioned work the Client and I communicated over 20 times to make sure all the details were to his satisfaction.
I wanted to write and thank you again for the lovely piece of art, for the gift in painting of the place that means most to me and my mother. She wept when I showed her, running her fingers over a place in colour that existed for many years only in her memory. You brought that back today. So, thank you.

Typical Questions I Receive
Do you accept Returns on commissions?
No, I do not accept returns on commissioned paintings. Commissioned paintings are one of a kind and personal to each client, therefore once commissioned, the original is yours.
Can I make prints for my family of friends?
While the original is yours to keep the rights of the image still remain with the artist. If you would like any prints in the future legally you must purchase them through me. I retain the rights to allow retail sales under the intellectual property rights law.
